Front of Wythebank cottage

Wythebank is a detached Lakeland Cottage situated in the tranquil hamlet of Hodge Close which nestles on the side of Holme Fell, in the little valley it shares with High Tilberthwaite, between Coniston and Little Langdale. It is ideally placed for both walkers and mountain bikers of all abilities. Park your car up for the week and discover the joys of Coniston Old Man, Tarn Hows, Wetherlam, The Langdales and beyond with a different walk every day.

Local attractions

With all that exercise you can afford to treat yourself to visits to Chesters by the River Coffee Shop in Skelwith Bridge or fine hostelries such as The Old Dungeon Ghyll, The Black Bull, Coniston, The Brittania, Elterwater, The Drunken Duck and, your very own local, The Three Shires in Little Langdale.

Comfort with character

The cottage has 3 bedrooms and sleeps 6 comfortably. There is a bathroom, separate monsoon shower room, sitting room, snug sitting room with piano, dining room and kitchen. There is wi-fi which is fine for streaming music and we've used BBCiPlayer but you couldn't describe it as Superfast!

We are looking forward to welcoming our guests again as we emerge from lockdown and reopen on the 4th July 2020. You can see our commitment to your Safer Stay here.

Guest Book

Welcome to our online Guest Book

We've had to temporarily remove the real thing from Wythebank. We would love it if you could find time to write your Guest Book entry here. If you have any other feedback for us please use the Contact Us page. Many thanks, David & Carol.

We've all had a wonderful week here in this wonderful area. It was our 13 year walking in this lovely area with so much from the front door we could ask for nothing more. Thank you.

The remoteness of the cottage, the fact that you could walk from the door to an abundance of places without going on a road, the high standard of the cottage.

Dr Macconnell

Our second stay in this lovely cottage. Lovely weather for lots of walks from the front door. Our only wet day was when we went kayaking on Lake Coniston.

Tom & Helen

Great week, notwithstanding the challenging weather. Fantastic walking from the front door. Dramatic and beautiful landscape. Something for everyone here. I'm sure we will be back.

Richard & Sarah

What a beautiful setting, wonderful walks from the doorstep. Saw the nuthatch and the woodpecker. This is without doubt one of the best Lake District cottages we have stayed in.

Andy & Sally

Just had a brilliant week at Wythebank Cottage. The cottage is beautiful, well maintained and well equipped. Its perfect location well away from the crowds but a great base for walking (could spend a week here and walk directly from the cottage without having to use the car). Saw huge selection of birds an squirrels in the garden which was a great bonus.

Steve & Marion

This is a wonderful cottage in a stunning location. it is very well equipped and the beds are particularly comfortable. We liked the fact that it was up a track, away from the crowds, and yet within easy reach of both Coniston and Ambleside. An easy 20 minute walk to the local pub The Three Shires in Little Langdale. We hope to return very soon.

Carol & Mike

The location is fabulous, so many walks from the door, peaceful. Cottage facilities were great, very comfortable. We were fortunate to meet the owners who are lovely, not surprising the cottage is of such a high quality.
